Since 1987, the production of Black Tiger in Asia has drastically
changed after the impact of White Spot and other viruses. During the
period of time, it is still difficult to find out solution although expert and
Farmer worldwide has making high efforts making out many
modifications and improvements.

Thanks to the import of P. Vannamei to Asia and that recover the
shrimp production and gave life to the very weak shrimp Industry.
However, The Tauru virus carried by Vannamei is new to Black Tiger,
some Asian countries are still pay strict regulation in different scale to
restrain the Vannamei culture and suffering the drastic decrease of
Black Tiger.

Reasons of those Asian countries that allow the Vannamei culture:

1. There is no difference between the Black Tiger and Vannamei in the
Int’l market, but different price for small shrimp (15-20 gram) and
large shrimp (20-30 gram).

Small shrimp, 15 – 20 gram, high supply, low price.
Large shrimp, 20 – 30 gram, few supply, high price.

2. The main factor of high mortality of the Black Tiger are the changed
environment and disease complication. Allowing the Vannamei
culture and the fear of possible virus to be brought in actually won’t
cause further impact to Black Tiger when we have already noticed
the fact of serious recession of Black Tiger for so many years.

3. Not only the livability of Vannamei is superior to Black Tiger, but the
cost is much lower. Now the harvest of ordinary Vannamei is better,
to study and develop the technology for growing the Vannamei up to
20-30 gram, the same market size of existing Black Tiger, is more
easy than finding out solution for Black Tiger.

4. In the past, the livability of P. Japonicus is inferior to Black Tiger so
Black Tiger quickly took the place of Japonicus and have ever created
greater profit for farmer and the Industry. Now, Vannamei is replacing
theBlack Tiger and has brought us much more benefit, just like the
Black Tiger substituted for Japonicus.

5. The purpose of disease prevention is to protect and HELP the
development of the Industry. Not only the Black Tiger, there are
always some species is affected greatly or even phased out from
the market when the environment changed. To introduce more
species is therefore the best way to support the Industry, instead
of making out more restriction. Taiwan Authority was hesitated in
bringing in new species because of the new possible virus. More
flourishing and diversified development was created successfully
when the Authority decided to release the restriction. In another
word, not only the possible virus did not really cause problem to
the Industry but more sophisticated aquaculture technology is
accumulated .

To start the SPR vannamei culture earlier, the much better harvest
coming out from the difficult position. New species and new product
is an important energy to improve human life as they usually bring
the Industry and the whole world better efficiency and more
convenience Hawaii Oceanic Institute and local hatchery not only
has successfully developed Specific Pathogen Resistant ( SPR )
Vannamei, but also further studying other new species that is suitable
for the existing and future environment, so a more mature, advanced
and long terms aquaculture development can be expected .

Once upon a time, there was a farm in the county and the owner is dying as no effective
method can be applied, the family did nothing as they afraid any move may cause noise
that interrupt the owner and make the condition worse.
Finally, not only the owner died as predicted but also the whole family died unexpectedly
as they lost their confidence and living ability.

The same thing can be said to Vannamei, if we prevent the recessional Black Tiger from
new virus by holding the import of other species, the whole shrimp industry will be collapsed
very soon.

New species, new product and new opportunity have to be infused to the industries
for further improvement:

It is practical to maintain the typewriter and bring in the computer.
It is economic to maintain the bicycle and bring in the motorcycle and automobile.
It is constructive to maintain the candle and bring in the electrical lighting system.
It is merciful to maintain the old medicine and bring in the new functional one.
It is amiable to look after the dying horse and concern the living of the farm owner.
It is always safe and creative to follow the successful policy of other country before it is late.
