Inland Cage I & Inland Cage II

Polyculture

The type of bacteria in the fishpond is different form that of shrimp pond. In the fish pond, the bacteria is Gram positive while the bacteria in the shrimp pond is Gram negative.

The organisms (in this case, the shrimp) being cultured in the pond which is dominated by Gram negative bacteria are more prone to disease as compared to those organisms (the fishes) being cultured in the pond which is dominated by Gram positive bacteria and are less susceptible to diseases.

Therefore, by employing the use of inland cage and practicing polyculture of fishes and shrimps in the same pond, not only is it easier to manager the planktonic algal bloom in the pond water but also insure that the organisms being cultured are less susceptible to disease outbreaks and ultimately a more fruitful harvest.

  Precaution

The distance between the base of the net and the pond bottom should be at least 50 cm so as to insure a good pond water circulation.

Since the stocking density and production is high in inland cage culture practice, it becomes necessary to increase the aeration and prepare for a stand-by generator in case of power failure and interruption.
